Whenever you start something new, a million doubts could arise in your mind — will it work? Would this be better than what I was doing earlier? Would people ridicule this? What would they think about me? I have never done something like this before. Would I end up losing whatever I have? Maybe I should do this later when I’m in a better situation? Like this, so many uncomfortable questions could arise which make you think whether you should do it or not.
Similar doubts can also come when you are walking the spiritual path – you may think, after doing all this yoga, would I ever get enlightened? Wouldn’t I be better off investing my time in what is possible for me? Has this enlightenment ever happened to anyone?
So when these doubts arise, how do you take a call and proceed?
I don’t know what is the right or wrong way to handle this, but can share what I apply when faced with situations like this.
Whenever in doubt, I am always reminded of this quote by Sadhguru —
“What is possible and what is not possible is not your business. Nature will decide this. Your business is just to work for what truly matters to you.”
The moment I remind myself of this, it gives me the necessary strength to continue and pursue what I truly care for.
This relates to all aspects of my life. I don’t know whether I’m ever going to reach the ultimate, but that doesn’t stop me from continuing to pursue my sadhana and working towards it.
In terms of work, at Yogi Re, I’m constantly trying to change the status quo and experiment with new things, not knowing whether it will work or not! This puts me in many challenging situations at times. For example, we have been doing so many residential programs in Bangalore from more than a year and could have easily settled into it. Instead, took on a completely new challenge of trying to organise a program outside of Bangalore for the first time which has again thrown up so many challenges and questions to face and it feels like starting anew! But this has not deterred us from doing what we really care for – to touch people’s lives in a very deep way. And will continue to do whatever it takes to make it happen?
So do stop and think — what is that you truly care about and want to create? If we just figure out this and work towards it, then anyways that is a fortune by itself, since then every moment of our life, we would be doing something really worthwhile, isn’t it? ?
