One of the best things we can do for our children is to expose them sufficiently to nature and all the elements. During our camps we see many of the kids struggling with these little little things — they shudder stepping in the forest because of thorns or want to kill an insect the moment they see one, are unable to walk barefoot and get tired after walking even a short distance, would run indoors as soon as rain comes to avoid catching a cold! These are just limitations we have developed by restricting ourselves to one particular kind of lifestyle and children also tend to follow.
It’s good if we can break these limitations early in their lives — if we can’t even coexist with all the elements of nature, then where is the question of Yoga happening within us?
It’s good if they can learn to enjoy the forests teeming with wildlife, learn to coexist with all the bugs and insects, get their hands in the soil, learn to feel the wind, get wet in the rain without complaining, sit on the ground or earth joyfully, climb trees with aplomb, tend to the plants and see them grow, experience the joy of growing their own food and eating it with their bare hands, learn to play a game joyfully, spend time with pets, have a keen eye and identify the birds and animals they come across etc.
These are simple pleasures of life that many of us have forgotten being in a city! Give your child an opportunity this summer, to look at life afresh! ?
